DAO is an exciting concept. Its core is to achieve equal rights, achieve multi-party decision-making, and eliminate as much as possible the uncontrollable risks caused by dictatorship. DAO is a new type of management, born for governance.
The earliest DAO in the industry was The DAO, which caused great repercussions, but the contract was stolen and caused huge losses, which eventually led to the Ethereum hard fork. Also because of the huge impact of The DAO event, DAO’s subsequent development is far less powerful than before.
However, DAO, as the governance method most in line with the spirit of the blockchain, must have a place in the ecological landscape of the blockchain, and it is an indispensable and important puzzle.
For example, DeFi, which is also in line with the spirit of the blockchain, is deeply integrated with DAO. Many well-known DeFi projects themselves are DAO models, such as the most successful decentralized stable currency issuance protocol Maker DAO, the top decentralized transaction KyberDAO.

What is Aragon?
First of all, we must understand that Aragon is a DAO that provides tools for DAO organizations. Its core is to provide a rich and easy-to-use DAO tool for creating and using DAO. Aragon was established in November 2016 and officially launched on the mainnet in November 2018.
So far, Aragon has become the largest DAO infrastructure. At present, 1541 DAO organizations have been created on Aragon. There are 89 organizations active within 30 days, and the locked amount is about 28.43 million US dollars.

Aragon product composition
Aragon’s products are divided into 3 parts, namely Aragon Network, Aragon Court and Aragon Chain.
Aragon Network
Aragon Network is the most important basic service provided by Aragon, that is, the basic network for the organization to create and use DAO.
Aragon Network provides a simple and easy-to-use DAO creation tool. It only takes 0.1 ETH and a few minutes to fill in the information to create a DAO.
Aragon has 6 built-in templates. Different templates have different focuses. Organizations can choose the template that meets their needs according to their needs.
When creating an organization, you can freely set different governance parameters, such as minimum voting rate, passing percentage, voting deadline, voting buffer time, voting delay time, etc., and then after simple configuration, it can be successfully created.
This is part of the DAO organization created on Aragon.
Aragon Court
Aragon Court is another important service provided by Aragon, namely Aragon Court.
Aragon Court provides arbitration services. If community members have a dispute over a certain matter, they can initiate arbitration by mortgage a certain amount of Aragon tokens, and also need to pay arbitration fees.
An important use of the ANT token is introduced here, that is, to generate ANJ by mortgage ANT to become an arbitration juror, and the arbitration juror can obtain benefits through arbitration disputes.
To become a juror, you need to mortgage at least 10,000 ANT tokens. The more ANT you mortgage, the greater the chance of being selected for an arbitration case. Generally, only 3 jurors are selected for a dispute. It is possible to involve more jurors.
It can be seen from the figure below that a total of 4.25 million ANT tokens have been mortgaged, and there are a total of 261 arbitration jurors.
At present, there are only 13 arbitration disputes displayed by the arbitration court, all of which are in a completed state. The entire arbitration process will not take too long.
Aragon Chain
The third part of the Aragon ecosystem is Aragon Chain. Aragon Chain is based on Cosmos. It is a chain built specifically for DAO. Compared with Ethereum, it will be faster, cheaper and fully compatible with Ethereum.
The native token of Aragon Chain is ARA, but the more special point is that ARA is also generated by collateralizing ANT. Owning ARA tokens can earn network fee income through staking.
This adds another important usage scenario for ANT, which is not actually issuing a new token and will not decentralize the value of the Aragon network.
Aragon Chain has not been launched yet.
Aragon’s value capture
From the perspective of the basic services provided by Aragon, Aragon is more of a tool attribute. For open tool products, its value capture is more difficult.
The general value capture methods of tools are mainly paid functions and advertising monetization. And these are not applicable in the blockchain field, at least not applicable to Aragon, so it is more difficult to capture the value of Aragon tool attributes.
Through the establishment of the arbitration court, Aragon has actually created a way to capture value for some users who hold ANT, because the initiation of arbitration has to be paid. Since the arbitration court went online in February, the jurors have received a total of about US$3,300.
Secondly, the emergence of Aragon Chain has injected capital attributes into ANT. After obtaining ARA through ANT, you can obtain fee income and should also be able to participate in the governance of Aragon Chain.
The last point is the governance value of ANT itself. Before the governance value was not valued by people, but now we can find that governance tokens are not without value, but different products have different governance values.
The governance right can be simply understood as the company’s management. If you have a certain governance share, plus influence, etc., it may affect the future development direction of the agreement. When the scale and influence of the agreement reach a certain level, the development direction of the agreement may involve very huge interest entanglements, and the value of the so-called governance token lies here.
As the leader of DAO, Aragon’s governance token itself is valuable. As for its value, it is closely related to the prosperity of the Aragon system.
